The movie begins with Katniss, a skilled hunter, living in District 12, one of the poorest districts in Panem. The story takes a dramatic turn when Katniss's sister, Prim, is reaped to participate in the Hunger Games. Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place, and she, along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson), is taken to the Capitol to prepare for the Games.
