The film is set in 1944, in a rural area of Spain. Ofelia, a 10-year-old girl, moves to the countryside with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, a ruthless and sadistic army officer tasked with eliminating the remaining Republican resistance. While exploring the countryside, Ofelia stumbles upon a mysterious labyrinth, where she encounters a mythical creature known as the Faun (Pan).
