The story picks up where the first film left off, with museum night guard, Larry Daley (played by Ben Stiller), struggling to balance his job and family life. When a new exhibit, the Smithsonian Institution's collection, is introduced, Larry is promoted to be in charge. However, things take a turn when an ancient Egyptian artifact, the Tablet of Thoth, is stolen, unleashing a battle between historical figures and mythological creatures.
