The Mizo Hlapui Bu was first published in 1948 by the Mizoram Baptist Convention (MBC). The book was compiled by a committee of Mizo pastors, evangelists, and musicians who aimed to create a standardized hymn book for Mizo Christians. Over the years, the book has undergone several revisions, with new songs and hymns being added to reflect the changing needs and tastes of the Mizo community.
