The detention room was a drab, beige space with fluorescent lights that hummed overhead, casting an unforgiving glare on the tables and chairs arranged within. Haley took a seat, recognizing a few familiar faces among the other students. There was Jake, the star quarterback, who had gotten into trouble for a prank gone wrong, and Emily, a bookworm who had been caught speaking out of turn during a particularly heated class discussion.
