Mauricio de Sousa, a passionate cartoonist and entrepreneur, began his career in the 1950s, creating comics for Brazilian newspapers and magazines. In 1963, he introduced the world to Monica, a spirited and energetic young girl who would become the leader of the group. Sousa's inspiration for Monica came from his own childhood and his daughter, who was also a lively and adventurous kid. The character's popularity grew rapidly, and soon, a cast of colorful friends joined Monica on her exciting escapades.
