The show revolves around the Huang family, who move from Washington, D.C. to Orlando, Florida in the early 1990s. The family consists of Louis Huang (played by Randall Park), a chef and owner of a restaurant; Jessica Huang (played by Constance Wu), a stay-at-home mom; and their three children: Eddie (played by Ian Chen), the show's narrator and protagonist; Jessica's brother, Mater (played by Ke Huy Quan); and the youngest sibling, Amy (played by Ali Wong).
