The team soon discovers that a program called the Merovingian (Lambert Wilson) has taken over the Matrix, and they must stop him to prevent a catastrophic outcome. Along the way, Neo meets Persephone (Jennifer Lien), the Merovingian's wife, who becomes a complex and intriguing character.
